When you're planning a holiday abroad you may let your imagination drift and conjure up images of four star dining rooms with waiters in dinner jackets serving gourmet food with a flourish, or a lavish bathroom for your sole use, with exquisite toiletries and perfumes laid out. BUT, if you stop and think for a minute, does all that really make a holiday? Do you really need to pay for luxury accomodation when you're only going to be in the hotel for a relatively short time during the day? Is'nt a holiday more about getting out and about and seeing places and doing new things? It makes more sense to look at cheap hotels so that you have more money to spend on the holiday experience itself. When it comes down to it you only need a place to rest your head overnight.
The best way by far these days is to search online for cheap hotel accomodation. The whole searching process has been streamilined by websites that compare prices, and the latest one, Trivago, is very efficient. It can run through and compare thousands of hotels and prices in less than a minute, and you can set up a search filter based on price or facilities. Another option is TravelSupermarket which has a wide search range although it is slightly slower. Some sites may fail to include local taxes on hotel rooms so this needs to be taken into account.
If you're happy to consider holiday accomodation that just fulfils basic needs such as cleanliness and the right location, then you don't even need to limit yourself to hotels. Hostels can offer big savings over hotel prices, and many are friendly, functional, and pleasant places to stay. You won't get room service, but you may get breakfast thrown in. The UK, for example, has the Youth Hostel Association which should be more widely known and appreciated than it is. It has some properties in fabulous locations. (more...)
